Established in 1907

We would like to welcome anyone and everyone to our beautiful towns one and only, National Historical Inn. As the new proprietors of Hotel Planter, Shannon and Stan O'Neil, our family is honored to continue the tradition of hospitality that has been woven into the fabric of this community for generations. La Conner stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit of the Pacific Northwest, its fertile lands nurtured by the Skagit River Valley. Since its inception, our town has flourished as a hub of agriculture, commerce, and culture, drawing travelers and settlers alike to its welcoming shores.

The story of Hotel Planter dates to 1907, when it was erected with sturdy concrete blocks on land purchased from Louisa A. Conner, after whom our beloved town is named. Initially catering to Seattle's affluent visitors and local merchants, the hotel quickly became a cornerstone of La Conner's burgeoning hospitality scene. Over time, it evolved into a haven for artists and writers seeking inspiration amidst its storied halls.

However, like many historic landmarks, Hotel Planter faced its trials, particularly during the tumultuous years of the Great Depression. By the 1980s, neglect had taken its toll, and the once-grand hotel was reduced to transient housing, a shadow of its former glory. In 1989, a new chapter dawned for Hotel Planter as new construction brought about a transformation of the upper floor, where 22 rooms were reimagined into 12, each adorned with modern amenities while retaining the timeless charm of the original architecture.

As we step into this role as custodians of Hotel Planter, our commitment to excellence remains unwavering. We have plans of our own, with an idea of making each individual room its own. Specialized antique furniture and designs imploring each to eventually receive its own name designated after the rooms designs time in history. Downstairs, in the space once occupied by Earthenworks Gallery, we are excited to unveil O'Neil's Confectionary and Soda Fountain—a nostalgic oasis where guests can delight in sweet treats and refreshing beverages amidst a setting steeped in history. While you explore the treasures of La Conner, from its galleries to its antique shops and culinary delights, we invite you to retreat to the tranquility of Hotel Planter. Our aim is to provide you with an experience that is both restorative and enriching, a sanctuary from the bustle of everyday life. In keeping with our dedication to your comfort, we offer complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies along with free internet access throughout the premises. Ice is also available upon request.
